As we decided what furniture belonged where in our new home it was decided that the inherited dining room set would go in the basement family room. It is perfect down in the hang out space for playing games, doing puzzle, for drinks and food for the kids. It is a oak set, stained a medium brown and consistent of a china hutch, table, small desk, and microwave cart.
The whole set belongs together and in our previous home we had to separate it due to size constraint. Now that the set is together and in the perfect place. We would need a new table and chairs for the open concept dining space between the living room and kitchen.
One thing you should know about me is I love solid wood furniture. If I am going to spend the money on furniture I want it to last. I also prefer spending my money in a small business and customizing to fit my style.
Before I purchase; I do my research. I have been following a company out of Evanston, Wyoming for a while. A cousin first purchased a farmhouse table during a renovation and it caught my eye. It is a small company that renovates furniture and creates new furniture. They have been consistent and the table my cousin purchased has held up. It is full wood and comes with 1 bench. Best of all they have a multiple styles, paints, and stains to design my own table.
I started by reviewing their Facebook page and album to determine the table I wanted. I narrowed it to two. I asked my husband because his legs are the longest and one I picked was to eliminate the cross beam.
He picked my favorite with the cross beam and some hardware detail. Remember I am elemental. Wood, metal, rock, etc.
Once the decision was made the message was sent:
The end pieces are breadboard. I love how they finish the table. To clarify the color I sent a digital stain sample of my cupboard stain.
This was agreed on along with a price.
when someone is making you furniture agree on a price and timeline. Only pay up to 1/2 the price until the item is delivered or picked up.
The table arrived prior to Thanksgiving as promised and is better than I thought it would be. The remaining 1/2 was paid upon delivery.
To go with the table, I wanted soft upholstered chairs. 5 in total. We went to furniture stores to locate several option. They were all really expensive and uncomfortable. So I decided to try a few online option. I found some I like but in looking at the description they were only rated to hold a 150 pound person. 1. This says not well constructe.
2. Why would I buy something that could break if someone over 150 pounds and most my family is because we are tall sits on them.
Sadly a lot of furniture is that way. I did find the chairs I wanted and had a great experibexes ordering them from Wayfair. The chairs I purchased have a 300 pound capacity.
