Devil’s Horse or St. George’s Dragon and you thought it was just a Dragonfly

"The dragonfly brings dreams to reality and is the messenger of wisdom and enlightenment from other realms." Author Unknown

We had this large, beautiful Dragonfly visit our house tonight. Dragonflies are beautiful insects and are amazing. They can fly forwards at 30 miles an hour and backwards. They have 360 degree vision.(1) It is hard not to like dragonflies or to be amazed by them.

They have mesmerized people have given them cultural meaning and have given them miraculous origins. The truth is they are truly unique and fascinating.

They are named dragonflies because it was once thought that they were once dragons.

In Romanian folklore, the dragonfly was Saint George’s horse. After St. George wounded the dragon, his horse was cursed by the devil and became a giant flying insect. (2) The Romanians called them the devil’s horse. Drac like Dracula yes. Drac means dragon or devil.

St. George is the Patron Saint of Soldiers and Framers.(3) He served in the crusades as a soldier and is venerated by both Western and Eastern Christians. He is also the Patron Saint of England. St. George’s flag is central to the current UK flag.

Dragonfly are also Good Luck. In most cultures they symbolize change, transformation and adaptability. (4) It is often a mental and emotional maturity.

Do I see symbolism in it appearing tonight? My answer is no. I think it was just having a great dinner of mosquito. I was glad to get some cool pictures and use the effects button on my camera. I am glad to have it around.
