After flattening and grading your yard the next step is to decide if you are going to put in a sprinkling system. If the answer is yes then you will be in the trenches. It is so worth it tho!! I am a great gardener if I have an automatic watering system if not I kill plants. I either over water or under water.
Also I remember all the time it took every summer hauling hoses around the yard, connecting and reeling it up to water the lawn. For me the answer is easy, yes, we will have a sprinkler system.
Any sprinkler system always starts with the decision to put it in yourself or hire a company. I am lucky to have a husband who is skilled and has put sprinkling systems in before.
Step 1. Measure and draw out you lawn. Make sure you decide where your flower beds and/or garden will be.
Step 2. Take to a sprinkler supply company. They will chart out your lawn with sprinklers and set you up with all the parts needed. You need to decide if you want sprinkler or drip system in your gardens. I like drip system because sprinklers can be blocked by plants. The plants in front of the head will block the water and starve the ones in front of them.
Step 3. Trench the the water lines
Step 4. Dig back against the house, fence, etc and place sprinklers and drip line.
Step 5. Fill trenches back in
Step 6. Rake
Step 7. Place sod
Step 8. Place Mulch
Step 9. Fill flower beds
