As we start a New Year we look back at what happened or did not happen within the last year, we also look forward to positive changes in the New Year. The New Year is often seen as a blank page or a hope for new happiness.
As I looked for a quote to capture my thoughts at this time I sorted through all sorts of information. 2020 has been called a “dumpster fire”, “$@?! Show”, “lost year”, “pandemic special”, we could go on and on. People are wishing this year away, gone and buried. But as I look back on this year, I realize it has taught us a lot.
It has taught me my strength, our resilience, who my friends and family truly are, about love and hate, about selfishness and unselfishness, about truth and propaganda, but most of all it has taught me who I truly am.
The quote I found gave me inspiration, but probably not the type of inspiration you are thinking. As I read the quote below I found I needed to add more
“An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.” -William E. Vaughn
Here is my addition:
A realist goes to bed because they understand that one day, minute, or second truly changes nothing. It is not the old or new year that determines ones fate. The change must come from us, whether it be mindset or action. We are the difference, otherwise time continues to march on. You must chose to change for it to happen. It can happen at the beginning of the New Year or it can happen today, but the choice is yours alone to make. -JoDale Skinner
I wish you a Happy New Year! Make the change you want most happen this year. Only you can do it!
