Mind Blown; The true meaning of Blood is thicker than water

I saw a post on a veteran own business page which stated that we have all been mislead into using this quote wrong. That this quote has been taken out of context.

I started to look and find information to either support or debunk the claim. Well mind blown and looking at it this quote makes so much more sense.

My husband recently retired after 20 years of service to the community as a Police Officer. I saw this Bond grow not only with him, but some of my friends which were married to police officers.

The full quote is

“the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb”,

This interestingly enough has the exact opposite meaning. The original meaning of blood being thicker actually means the opposite of what we have been taught. It instead comes from the idea that a bond made with someone that you’ve shed blood with (have been in a literal battle) is stronger than one had with someone you’ve shared the womb with (family).

Think about your life are there those that are closer to family because they have been there through a battle. Yes, it could be literal family, but it could be a bond forged with someone unrelated.
