These are the ultimate treat in our family. There is nothing better than these orange rolls. Tonight we made oranges rolls as a family and my niece brought her cousin from the other side. The niece had never had an orange roll before and she exclaimed “these are so good I am going to die.” From the mouth of babes. Kids are the most honest in there exclamations. This is a truthful statement.
1 Tablespoon Yeast or 1 packet of Yeast
1/4 Cup warm Water
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 Teaspoon Salt
2 Eggs
1/2 Cup Sour Cream
1/3 Cup Butter, Softened
3 1/2 Cups Flour
Additional
3/4 Cup Sugar
2 Teaspoons Orange Zest (1 orange)
1 Tablespoon Butter, melted
Glaze
1 1/2 Cups Sugar
1 Cup Sour Cream
Orange Zest of 1 Orange
1 Cup Butter
2 Tablespoons Orange Juice (fresh squeezed) usually 2 Oranges which you previously zested.
Bloom yeast in water and set aside. Otherwise use instant yeast which does not need to be bloomed. If using instant yeast place water and yeast in the bottom of mixer. Place regular mixing paddle. Add sugar, flour, salt, and eggs. Begin mixing and add softened butter. As the dough comes together switch from paddle to dough hook. Mix with dough hook for about 2-3 minutes until creates dough ball. Let rise until double about 2 hours.
Roll out dough to size of a large pizza 12 inch size circle. In a bowl mix 3/4 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons of orange zest. Brush dough with 1 Tablespoon of butter and sprinkle orange zest/sugar mixture to cover dough.
Cut into 12 wedges. Roll starting at the wide end to the small point. They will look like crescent rolls. Place in a greased 13 x 9 cake pan. Cover and allow to rise until double. You can speed up the process by placing in a warm oven.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes Or until golden brown.
Cook glaze between 5 - 10 minutes before the rolls are finished. The glaze needs to be poured on hot over hot rolls.
Glaze instructions
Combine all ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil. Boil for 3 minute. Remove from heat and pour over hot rolls.
Let stand 10-15 minutes and serve.
