When you move inevitably your going to find that you need at least one new price of furniture. We found that with the color change, size, and design of our new home we needed a few new piece of furniture.
The most critical was bar stools. Our previous island would only fit two stools. The new island is much longer and fits four stools. It is also a little bit different in height. Our existing two stools are 34 inches.
There are typically three different heights of islands/bars, they should have different heights of stools.
To get your measurement, measure from the top of the counter to your floor.
Heights between 35 - 39 inches need 24 - 27 inches stools.
Heights between 40 - 43 inches need 28 - 33 inches stools.
Heights between 44 - 47 inches need 34 or above inches stools.
Once you find the height you need it will help you to start your search. The easiest way to start your search is by using the internet. There are many sites from which you can purchase new or used furniture. The internet can also help you find brick and mortar stores that have furniture you are looking to purchase. If anything looking at the internet helps you narrow down on the style of bars you want.
I wanted silver, stainless, or pewter metal stools. Metal is easy to clean, matches the color i wanted for my design, and have longevity.
As I looked for stools I located the ones I wanted online. As I looked at the color combinations, heights, amount available, cost, and design. The stores near me did not have comparable items to see first hand. Internet buys can be hit or miss so here are some guidelines to follow when purchasing online furniture.
1. Order from reputable companies. Use companies you know, have heard about, have references from friends and family. Look at Amazon, Walmart, Target, Wayfair, Joss & Main, Pottery Barn, Overstock, etc. 2. Shipping can be expensive look for coupons and deals on shipping. If not it maybe best to look at brick and mortar or used options. A cheap item can get expensive when shipping is added. Etsy is a great example local pick up is a great option if there is a local retailer otherwise
furniture prices can double from shipping.
3. Look at reviews on items. These are from people who received the items and took the time to write a review. They are usually because someone loves or hates the items. Most people do not take the time to do a review unless they are really wowed or hate an item. Always take their opinion with a grain of salt, but use it to give you an idea not only of the product but the company.
4. Look at the description and read throughly. Don’t buy any furniture with a weight restriction under 250 pounds unless it is children furniture. Furniture which has a low weight restriction will not last long and if you have a larger friend or family member nothing could be more embarrassing for either of you if the furniture breaks. Weight restriction will help you spot quality items.
5. Can you get the item within you time restriction? How soon do you need or want it?
6. Does the company have easy return or free return? If ordering for the first time call customer service and see if this can be added. This is extra piece of mind in case the items do not turn out to be what you thought they would.
After the items are purchased and come you will need to put them together. Look at each item for breakage or defect regardless if you purchased online or at a brick and mortar store.
The stools I purchased I loved all except for the seat. The seat did not match the design and color scheme. There were 3 options
1. Return and start my search again
2. Paint the seats
3. Upholster the seats
I chose to upholster the stools. Why? I love the stools. It was only the wooden seat that didn’t fully meet my design plan. By upholstering them it made them both more comfortable and added my style to the space.
